LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Lubbock area Salvation Army is joining the numerous other organization sending help to the East Coast ahead of Hurricane Florence.

Marvis Steele, office manager at the Salvation Army, is currently on her way to the Carolinas to serve as pastoral help. She said she got the call Tuesday and didn't expect to be shipped out until Sunday, after the hurricane hit.

While in the affected region she will be ministering to folks affected by the hurricane.

"You're going to be meeting people and seeing people who may have lost everything or they may have had a death and they're looking for somebody who cares and you don't realize how much a pleasant word or a prayer or just a hug helps in situations like that," Steele said.

Steele did not say how long she will be in the Carolinas.
