LUBBOCK, Texas -

(Press Release)

Texas Tech Athletics, in partnership with the Texas Tech Student Government Association and the Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, is pleased to announce the TAKE-A-KID initiative will continue for the 24th-consecutive year this weekend when the Red Raiders host Houston at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Through the annual TAKE-A-KID program, area youth are provided with opportunities to enjoy the Texas Tech gameday experience and interact with current Red Raider students. This year more than 1,900 area youth and their sponsors will participate in the event.

“I’ve been blessed to be involved with coordinating this activity for 18 years,” Director for Mentor Tech & the Office of Academic Enhancement Cory Powell said. “For many of the youth who attend, this will be the first Texas Tech Football game they have ever attended. For some, it be the first time they have been on our campus. It is rewarding to see their excitement and anticipation.”

Following in step with Texas Tech Athletics’ mantra of “Our Town, Our Team,” the primary goal behind the TAKE-A-KID program is to provide kids from all over the region to attend a Red Raider football game who would not be able to do so otherwise. The hope is that once they got to campus and experienced the college environment, it will then encourage them to think about college as a possibility for their future, and even one step further, that they would consider Texas Tech as a possibility.

Kickoff is slated for 3:15 p.m. Saturday between the Red Raiders and Houston in the annual Celebrate Cotton game. Tickets are still available by calling the Texas Tech Ticket Office at 806-742-TECH or by purchasing online.
