LUBBOCK, Texas -

The South Plains Food Bank received a hefty donation during Hunger Action Month.

Joining the fight to end food insecurity across the region, Lubbock Electric Company donated $25,000 to the Food Bank. The company also pledged to provide 30,000 meals to the Food Bank's 20-county service area.

Food Bank CEO David Weaver says commitments like this encapsulate what the mission is all about.

"The reality is it helps us just get food out, it pays for utilities, it pays for transportation and labor cost," Weaver said. "Every dollar that we receive provides us the equivalent of three meals. So a $25,000 donation is the equivalent of 75,000 meals."
