LUBBOCK, Texas -

Amarillo Congressman Mac Thornberry honored for his work on national security.

He chairs the House's Armed Services Committee.

The Center for Strategic and International Studies awarded him the Sam Nunn National Security Leadership Prize. It honors the legacy of the former Georgia senator, spotlighting and supporting lawmakers who address global challenges and put national security ahead of politics.

"If you think the glass is half-empty, than our political disfunction prevents us from doing what we really need to do to defend the country. On the other hand if you see it as half-full, then the point that we can work together more on national security, than on other issues, provides a worthy example that can help elevate the rest of our politics," Thornberry said.

Congressman Thornberry points to enormous support for next year's National Defense Authorization Act, as how the glass is half full. He said its passage, before the fiscal year, is the earliest in 41 years.
