South Texas deputy on leave after alleged inmate assault

Posted: Updated:

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A South Texas sheriff's deputy has been charged with assault after investigators say he allegedly mistreated an individual in custody.
The Bexar (bayr) County Sheriff's Office says 23-year-old Ta-Vian Gloeckler was arrested following an incident early Wednesday at the Adult Detention Center in San Antonio. Magistrate records show Gloeckler was charged with misdemeanor assault bodily injury and official oppression.
Gloeckler, who's been a deputy since May 2017, was held on $5,000 bond. Online court records did not immediately list an attorney for him.
Sheriff's officials didn't immediately release further details on the alleged attack or the inmate.
