LUBBOCK, Texas -

The USDA launches a $12 billion package of programs dedicated to protecting farmers from retaliatory tariffs.

The Market Facilitation Program will provide payments to corn, cotton, dairy, hog, sorghum, soybean, and wheat producers who've been targeted.

The Agricultural Marketing Service will buy up to $1.2 billion in commodities targeted by tariffs. Those will go to nutrition assistance programs.

The Agricultural Trade Promotion Program will use $200 million to open new markets.

Ag Secretary, Sonny Perdue, said these programs will give President Trump the time to negotiate long-term trade deals to benefit the entire economy.
