TTU Career Center offers free, professional clothing to students

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Texas Tech University Career Center provides a variety of services, all the ensure students will be successful post-graduation. A big role in landing that perfect job or internship is having confidence.

Toni Krebbs with the career center said the career closet started a few years ago after many students were asking for professional clothing.

"They're looking for something to wear for internships and job searches," Krebbs said. "They don't have a budget for these things, they can barely cover food and rent."

After researching what other universities offer, Krebbs saw many had a career closet.

"Most of them, you actually rented the clothing then you brought them back, but you had to have it dry cleaned," Krebbs said. "Well our students, then what, what about the next interview. So I decided that we would have a closet that's completely free."

Once a year, any registered student within the Texas Tech System can receive a full outfit.

"The only thing we ask in return is that they use our services, so they may come in for a resume critique, or a mock interview, or they may come to one of our networking events, or a career fair," Krebbs said.

To keep the closet stocked, Krebbs said the center relies on donations from the community.

"Unfortunately, first impressions are lasting impressions," Krebbs said. "So our students come in, if they look good, they feel good, they perform at a level, that even, it surprises them even. So looking their best, that's why we want to give them every advantage we can."

To donate, you can drop clothes off at the career center Monday through Friday.
