Arrington, Cruz remember Senator McCain

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Representative Jodey Arrington and Senator Ted Cruz say there's a void on Capitol Hill without Senator McCain. They point to his years on the Hill, as a naval aviator and a prisoner of war as sources of inspiration, despite their differences on policy.

"I hope our kids, when they read about American policy makers and leaders and folks who've dedicated their lives to service, and the profession I'm in, I hope John McCain is one of the luminaries that they teach them about because he's special," Arrington said.

Sen. Cruz says when soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines would visit with McCain, "they would tear up."

"There was a personal...there was an emotional relationship," Cruz said. "And he loved them. He loved them men and women of our military and he loved this country with a passion that was fiery and volcanic. He was a living legend."

A memorial service will be held Thursday in Phoenix to commemorate the senator's life. We'll have it live starting around Noon Thursday on FOX34 News Now, and the FOX34 News app.
