News release from Lubbock Police Department:

Justin Deshone Jackson, 29, is in custody this morning charged with murder in connection to an early morning stabbing.

Just after midnight on Monday, August 6th, Lubbock police officers were called to the 5800 block of 24th Street for reports of a stabbing. The first officer on scene located the female victim inside an apartment and immediately began providing first aid until paramedics arrived.

The female, identified as 35-year-old Shranda Carson, was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives with the LPD Persons Crimes Unit responded to the apartment complex to begin a homicide investigation. Detectives were able to quickly identify Jackson as a possible suspect in the murder and secured a warrant for his arrest.

At approximately 4 a.m., just hours after the stabbing, officers located Jackson in the 2900 block of East Baylor. He was arrested for murder and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center.

It appears the victim and suspect were in a dating relationship. The circumstances surrounding the murder are still under investigation.
