Federal grant to fund Lubbock Airport upgrades

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Some changes are headed to Lubbock International Airport.

City Council has accepted a federal grant to renovate, including a remodeled interior and exterior and an upgraded ticket counter and lobby.

Councilman Jeff Griffith says the biggest change is the flow of passenger traffic and security inside the airport.

"The flow of passengers as we enter the building, you'll enter from the east end, which will give us a much larger security area," Griffith said. "It will simplify going through security is our hope and plan. But it will also simplify the flow of passenger traffic, east to west."

Griffith says this tentative plan is a two- to three-year project costing about $35 million.
