LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Democrat running against Ken Paxton said he wants to be a check and balance on lawmakers' power.

Campaigning in Lubbock, Justin Nelson said he wants to return integrity to the Attorney General's office.

He cites Paxton's indictment on two felony charges for security fraud and one for failure to register as an investment adviser.

Nelson touting a new plan on fighting the opioid epidemic, focusing on using the state's power to go after manufacturers and providing treatment.

"For every single addict, there are so many different people who are affected, and it helps solve crimes, it helps reduce crime if we can get treatment to these folks who are addicted because it causes a lot of crime, so we have to have a really holistic approach to trying to deal with this problem. And it's affecting everybody, everywhere," Nelson said.

Nelson also advocates for keeping pre-existing condition requirements for insurers, and said his opponent is trying to not just strip protection from Texans but from all Americans.

Election day is November 6th.
