Kindred Hospice seniors celebrate third walk around the world

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Senior citizens walk around the world.

Elders at Kindred Hospice are part of a walking group using a program that projects walking distance on a map. They have kept track of their steps for three years on virtual trips.

Kindred Hospice specialist Kadee Harcrow said the program is designed to keep seniors as active as possible.

"Our goal is to help seniors, and so what we have done here is brought on this walking group so that they can continue to stay healthy, walk, stay fit, and hopefully out of the hospital, keep them healthy and where they are now," Harcrow said.

Founding member Cecelia Whetzel said she believes more elders would participate if they knew the benefits that come from it.

"There's a lot of people that need to do this that don't understand what the benefit is of it. We just need more seniors walking," Whetzel said.

On its third anniversary, the seniors celebrated their third complete walk around the world, according to the map projections.
