Chief Medical Examiner Sridhar Natarajan to retire in October

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock County Commissioners honor the out-going medical examiner's retirement.

Dr. Sridhar Natarajan will step down as chief Medical Examiner October 1st.

He took over the office in 2009. Precinct One Commissioner Bill McCay said the chief's been responsible for 600 to 700 cases a year, and called his work immaculate.

"Folks don't understand or realize the complexities of the cases you work on, the seriousness of the cases, how they get drug through the courts and even back to this courthouse and get reviewed again and again and again, and you're just bulletproof," McCay said.

"I've seen lots of forensic pathologists over the years, but none of them have had the ability to do very good work then have the common sense and the ability to describe that to a common person like me, and when you can do that, that's pretty good." Lubbock County District Attorney Matt Powell said.

Commissioners unanimously name Dr. Sam Andrews the interim acting Chief Medical Examiner.

NAAG Pathology will be supplementing the performance and management until September 30th.
