Man arrested with knife near Weinersnitchel on 3rd and University

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Around 12:30 a.m. Lubbock Police responded to a call in reference to a civil disturbance involving a suspect armed with a knife near 301 University Avenue.

According to the police report the suspect, Juan DeLeon, 59, approached the drive-thru of Weinersnitchel on 3rd and University. DeLeon advised employees they should call the police because he had a knife and was going to kill someone.

Officers arrived on scene and ordered DeLeon to drop the knife multiple times but refused. DeLeon made several attempts to move towards officers, but was eventually talked down and dropped the knife. 

He was placed under arrest for aggravated assault of a peace officer and transported to UMC for medical clearance for pre-existing medical conditions.  

Once cleared, he was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center. 

DeLeon provided false identification during booking and was also charged with failure to identify.
