Storms later today, cooler by the weekend

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Some clouds this morning with a few diminishing showers to our far northern counties, not expected to have an impact for Lubbock.

TODAY: Another hot one with the high near 95, a slow moving front will be in the area. This will help some storms to develop later this afternoon. We do have the chance for some of these to become strong to severe, with large hail and high wind gusts the threats. Also, heavy rain will be an issue with some areas of flooding possible.

TONIGHT: Low near 66 and mostly cloudy. The chance for storms will continue with some heavy rainfall, this might impact some areas for tomorrow's morning commute. Rainfall totals could be an inch or more in some locations.

COOLER, WETTER DAYS AHEAD: A good stretch of highs much cooler and staying in the 80s, low 80s by the weekend. Low temperatures dropping to the lower 60s. The slow moving front and cloud cover will help to keep the temperatures cooler.
We are 7" below the average rainfall for this year. Thankfully some models are bring anywhere between 3/4" to 1" or more across the area. We need all we can get to help the drought conditions.

Have a great Wednesday! Matt will keep coverage through the day and have the next updated forecast on the News at Nine.
