LUBBOCK, Texas -

South Plains College honored a group of graduates completing the college's vocational nursing program.

A pinning ceremony was held for 17 graduates, similar to the white coat ceremony. The pin is considered a badge of honor.

"The pinning ceremony is a symbolic welcoming of the newly graduated nurses into the nursing profession," Regina Aleman with South Plains College said. "The new nurses are presented pins by the faculty of the nursing school."

The graduating class includes four students from Lubbock.
