'IRS' scammers targeting Lubbock

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Scammers are getting more aggressive, using threats to try to scare you into handing over your info.

They're calling under the guise of IRS agents, once again, threatening to issue arrest warrants if they don't get immediate payments.

The Lubbock Police Department has fielded dozens of reports about the fraudulent calls in the past few days. There are signs you can use to know when you're being targeted.

"The IRS will never call you and threaten to arrest or take any kind of action, such as that for an immediate payment," said Tiffany Pelt with the Lubbock Police Department. "They'll also never call you and ask you for your credit or debit card over the phone, as well. Those should be red flags right away."

If you get one of these calls, hang up and call police.
