TxDOT meets with the public, discusses Loop 88 Project

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Texas Department of Transportation met with the public to discuss the Loop 88 Project.

The meeting discussed right of way aquisition to three of four segments to the proposed loop.

TxDOTs plan is to construct a six lane freeway from US-84 in Slaton around the City of Lubbock, to Slaton.

Dianah Ascensio with TxDOT said projects like this help stay ahead of transportation needs.

"We started with the Marsha Sharp Freeway,  that process of building an East, West freeway across Lubbock to connect interstate to West Lubbock started back in the 80's and it took 20 years before we broke ground and started construction on the Marsha Sharp Freeway in the early 2000's. So it's a process," she said.

This project phase includes studying environmental impacts, engineering, and public comments.
