LUBBOCK, Texas -

Lubbock Congressman Jodey Arrington shared his grief over the death of former city councilman, David Nelson.

Nelson died in a crash Wednesday morning. He was struck by a pickup while on his morning bike ride.

Arrington, a long time friend of Nelson's wife, Ainsley, left a meeting on the hill to pray for the family.

"Nobody loved the community of Lubbock, Texas, and was more proud to be a West Texan. Nobody was more eager to serve our community than David," he said. "We'll never be blessed with his leadership there, but you know what he's someone who will never be forgotten."

Arrington said Nelson supported him strongly and openly during his campaign, offering guidance and encouragement for his time on the hill.

No information regarding Nelson's funeral services has been released.
