UPDATED: Man pulls knife on police officer, police shoot suspect

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Detectives with the Lubbock Police Department are currently investigating an officer involved shooting Monday evening.  Just before 4 p.m., officers were called to 49th Street and T in reference to a domestic disturbance.

LPD said officers approached the door and a male confronted them with a knife. When confronted, the officer fired shots.

The male was struck, and the responding officers immediately began applying life saving measures while calling for an ambulance.

The victim was transported by an ambulance to UMC with possible life threatening injuries. No officers or other individuals were injured during the incident.

Detectives with the Persons Crimes Unit are investigating the shooting and the circumstances behind the original call concerning a domestic disturbance.


Lubbock Police shot a suspect who pulled a knife on an officer Monday afternoon, according to an LPD media release. This happened at a home on 49th Street near Avenues U and T.

Officers were called to the scene for a domestic disturbance. Investigators say when a man pulled a knife on an officer, shots were fired. The officer was not injured. The man was taken to the hospital. At last update, he is stable.

It was not immediately clear whether one or more officers fired shots. Below is an update from the scene provided by LPD spokesperson Tiffany Pelt.
