Chance for storms today, temperatures warming up next week

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Some storms yesterday with showers over night brought some good amounts of rainfall for the eastern half of the area. Here are some of the rain totals from Tech Mesonet:
Plains 0.67"
White River Lake 0.53"
Floydada 0.50"
Lubbock near Tech 0.31"
Spur 0.29"
Morton 0.28"
LBB Airport 0.00" even though most of the city had some rain.

We have some very light showers diminishing to the northeast of Lubbock.

Today: Slight chance for a few isolated storms with a partly cloudy sky. High near 95, south wind 10-15mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy sky with the low near 71. There may be a few lingering showers to the far western South Plains.

WEEKEND: Drier with highs in the mid 90s, a storm or two still can't be ruled out to the western half of the area. If you plan on being outside wear the sunscreen and stay hydrated.

EXTENDED: Sunny and hotter with temperatures back into the 100s by late week. We will keep an eye out for a system that might bring a chance for storms midweek. For now it just looks to be dry and hot.

Join us on Good Day until 9am, Matt will have the next update to the forecast on the News at Nine. Have a Happy Friday the 13th and a good weekend.
-Bobby
