LUBBOCK, Texas -

Eight independent school districts across the South Plains receive money to train students on high demand jobs.

Workforce Solutions of the South Plains partnered with the Texas Workforce Commission and LEDA to raise nearly $200,000 for the schools to upgrade technology for the programs.

Martin Aguirre, CEO of WFSP said the money is essential for the school districts to keep their training programs up-to-date.

"It's difficult for them to come up with extra money in their budgets especially to improve or  upgrade equipment. Technology moves at such a fast pace in the manufacturing industry that keeping new equipment current is a challenge and so this applies that," he said.

Aguirre said more than 700 students will benefit from the donations.
