Texas Tech University continues its tradition of serving all students by being ranked the No. 5 best online college for student with disabilities, up from No. 7 in 2017, and No. 9 most affordable college for students with disabilities in the nation, according to SR Education Group.

At Texas Tech, faculty and staff within Student Disability Services (SDS) work tirelessly to help make the transition for students with mental, physical and learning disabilities as seamless as possible. With the help of Texas Tech’s eLearning & Academic Partnerships, their efforts to make university and course information easily available to all students, including those at regional sites across the state, made the improvement in rankings happen.

“Students at Texas Tech benefit from the extraordinary collaboration between the student disability services office, IT Help Central and eLearning and academic partnerships,” said Larry Phillippe, managing director of SDS. “These three offices work constantly to monitor websites and learning platforms for all online content to ensure that materials are fully accessible and useable by students with disabilities, including those with hearing and visual impairments.

Justin Louder, associate vice provost for eLearning & Academic Partnerships, commends the hard work of everyone involved with making Texas Tech inclusive to all students.

“Texas Tech University is committed to providing high-quality online programs by providing an accessible environment to all learners,” Louder said. “Our faculty, staff and administration make accessibility a priority because we know this kind of content is beneficial for all of our students. I am proud to be a part of a university that values accessibility while still maintaining exceptional online instruction.”

The methodology on which Texas Tech was ranked include the types of services provided, thoroughness of online resources and universal design for learning training. Out of a possible score of 100, Texas Tech scored 84.29.
