The use of fireworks in Lubbock is illegal and a misdemeanor. Following the Lubbock Police Department's release last week regarding firework use in city limits, LPD received more than 720 calls concerning fireworks.

From midnight July 4th to 8:00 a.m. this morning, 480 calls were received related to fireworks in 32 hours. Police report, on a regular day, LPD will receive between 1,300 and 1,500 calls.

Between 8:00 p.m. July 4th and 3:00 a.m. this morning 1,270 emergency calls were received.

Other than fireworks calls, 50 were civil disturbances, ten car crashes and multiple officers also were responding to a missing person call.

Although fireworks are sold feet away from city limits, the possession and use of fireworks in city limits is still illegal and punishable with fines.
