LUBBOCK, Texas -

Joe Angel Vela is a man beset on all sides, he's struggling with almost losing three family members in the span of a week. Vela was visiting his sick wife at the hospital when someone shot through his house critically wounding his daughter and injuring his grandson.

"They were in the living room seeing movies as a family," said Vela. "They thought it was fireworks and finally they just saw the bullets flying in through."

Seven of his family members were home at the time, during the shooting his daughter used her body as a shield to protect the infant.

"After everything stopped she walked and that's when my son in-law knew she had gotten hit," said Vela.

Lubbock police haven't identified any suspects in the attack on Vela's home. Vela and his wife Elizabeth had just gotten married a month ago, they had a special ceremony at Covenant Medical Center, over the last year Elizabeth had been in and out of the hospital battling an intestine sickness. Elizabeth passed away on Monday afternoon on their one month anniversary.

Joe Angels family has created a go fund me page and are selling lunch plates to help raise funds for medical and funeral expenses. If you would like to help this family with a donation, you can do so by clicking on this link :
