Yesterday the rain and clouds kept us cooler at 89 degrees in Lubbock. The rain we had last night has ended this morning with some clouds continuing. Here are some of the rain totals over the last 48 hours for some locations:
Denver city 1.94"
Near Tech 0.42''
Even though some locations received some rain we are still in the drought. If popping fireworks please use caution, this time of year is the highest fires we have area wide.
TODAY: High near 96, partly to mostly sunny sky. There may be a few storms to develop for the western South Plains and eastern New Mexico later today. The Buffalo Springs Lake Freedom Firework show starts at 9:30, it will still be warm with temperatures in the 80s.
TONIGHT: Low near 71, mostly clear sky.
INDEPENDENCE DAY: High near 97, mostly sunny sky with a light southeast wind. Wear sunscreen and stay hydrated if you plan on being outside.
EXTENDED: A ridge of high pressure will keep the region under a northeast flow higher in the atmosphere. This will bring cooler temperatures through the rest of the week and this weekend. A few disturbance moving east across Texas may bring a few chances for storms through the weekend.
Have a great Tuesday! Matt will have the next update to the forecast tonight on the News at Nine.
