update 10:47 p.m. - We've had some good, soaking downpours.
Through 10:40 p.m. on the Tech Mesonet:
White River Lake 0.81"
Lake Alan Henry 0.43"
New Home 0.32"
Elsewhere it's been less. Even around Lubbock we've had some nice rainfall. Showers and storms will linger next couple of hours, moving SW to NE.
It's also cooled down to the lower 70s in Lubbock. This is cooler than it's been each morning this week. Nice change. Latest data keeps a chance for some storms tomorrow and again Sunday.
STORMS IN AREA: Some thunderstorms have developed this afternoon across the South Plains and much of New Mexico. While not everyone will get rain, there are a good number of storms moving from SW to NE.
There is the risk of lightning. Some storms could produce gusty wind and small hail. Overall, the severe threat is low.
With more storms in New Mexico and in the Permian Basin, we'll keep a chance for storms through early Saturday morning. Low near 73.
It's been real mild to start the day this week:
Low Tue 75
SATURDAY: Hot and breezy, high near 96. Wind S 12-22mph. There is a slight chance for storms during the afternoon and evening.
SUNDAY: Again a slight chance for storms, high near 94. Wind NE/SE 8-16mph.
NEXT WEEK: It'll trend hotter with more sun to begin the week. It'll be hot on the Fourth, high near 98. Right now longer-range guidance shows some rain returning late in the week. Right now we're not too optimistic on the rain potential, but at least have a drop in the temperature in the forecast.
Have a great weekend. Rob will have a full update to the forecast Saturday afternoon.
