LPD addresses use of fireworks within Lubbock city limits

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

(Press Release)

Every year for several days surrounding the Fourth of July holiday, the Lubbock Police Department is inundated with calls of individuals possessing and/or using fireworks within Lubbock’s city limits.

The possession and/or use of fireworks in Lubbock is illegal. Unfortunately the vast majority of the fireworks sold mere feet outside the city are immediately brought back into our city and are used in violation of Lubbock’s well known ordinance against them. The LPD’s already limited resources during one of our busiest times of year are always challenged by the tens of thousands of typically law abiding citizens who simply refuse to obey this particular law during this most patriotic holiday time.

We ask that citizens voluntarily comply with their city’s law and not engage in illegal activities this Independence Day, including the illegal possession and use of fireworks in our city.  Our officers will continue to respond to emergency and priority calls for service as well as patrol for and enforce the fireworks ordinance whenever possible throughout the holiday time frame.

We encourage citizens to report issues related to fireworks on our non-emergency number at (806) 775-2865 rather than calling 911 unless a true emergency is occurring.
