Hospitals running out of painkillers

Posted: Updated:

According to the American Medical Association, there is a public health crisis. Reports showed hospitals are running out of painkillers. According to the Associated Press, since last year there has been a manufacturing shortage of injectable opioid. Health care professionals are saving injected opioid for only serious cases and offering other patients less effective painkillers that could have more side effects or doesn't control the pain properly.

The shortage began last summer when the FDA found serious problems with sterilization at a factory in Kansas that makes sixty percent of the country's injected opioid. Reports said the FDA is trying to speed up the approval process to produce more opioid.  As a result, medical facilities are rationing their stockpiles.
