Hotter this weekend, storm chance remains low

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS AFTERNOON: It's a bit hotter, with mid 90s across the South Plains. Looking well to the northwest, some storms have developed in the higher terrain of northern New Mexico. With northwesterly flow aloft, these will move toward Texas. It's a better chance for storms around Amarillo, but there may be a few storms that make it into our area late tonight/early Friday. These will probably stay north of Lubbock.

Low tonight around 72, mostly clear. Wind S/SE 5-15mph.

FRIDAY: It's going to be hotter, high near 100. Gusty S/SW wind 12-25mph. Like today, there's a low chance for a storm north of Lubbock late tomorrow night into early Saturday.

WEEKEND: It'll stay real hot through the weekend, with only a slight drop Saturday with a weak wind shift.

NEXT WEEK: No promising rain potential. There will be a few storms each afternoon in northern New Mexico and Colorado, but right now we don't see a good sign of those making it to Lubbock on any night.

7-day forecast

OMAHA FORECAST: There are some showers and isolated storms in Iowa that are moving toward eastern Nebraska. 40% chance for rain during the Tech game tonight, temperature in the upper 60s.

The rain chance is lower tomorrow, then back to about a 40% chance for showers and storms on Saturday. Guns Up! for Tech.

Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have the updated forecast here early tomorrow.
-Matt
