Better storm chances today, mild this weekend

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

Showers and storms across the eastern half of the area this morning. This has continued overnight with nothing severe. Storms have brought some heavy rainfall, some high wind gusts, and small hail. Movement is to the South-southeast and most of the activity has diminished over the morning.

TODAY: High near 97, mostly sunny sky with a breezy south wind 15-25mph. Another chance for isolated to scattered storms, this time the better chances are for the western half of the area. They should start to develop around 3-5pm and continue through tonight.

Movement will be to the southeast and some of these will be strong to severe. Like yesterday the risks will be large hail and high wind gusts.

TONIGHT: Low near 70, the severe weather chance should taper off after sunset. Some showers with thunderstorms may continue into the early morning hours. South-southeast wind will stay a light breezy 8-16mph.

THIS WEEKEND: GO TECH!!!! Men's baseball playing Duke Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 5pm. Temperatures will be a little cooler but still in the mid 90s. Mostly sunny with a small chance for storms each day. The wind will stick around from the south 10-20mph on Saturday.

EXTENDED: Looking dry and mild next week with highs nearing average by Wednesday.

We will keep you updated on FOX34 Facebook and Twitter page through the day as storms develop. Matt will have the next update on the News at Nine. Happy Friday!!!!
