LPD: Registered sex offender's disappearance 'suspicious'

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Press release from Lubbock Police Dept.

Detectives with the Lubbock Police Department are asking for the public’s help in locating 51-year-old Robert Lee Whaley who was reported missing on May 19th by a friend.

At the time Whaley was reported missing, officers searched his home and did not find any indication of foul play. After further investigation, several details gathered caused concern for detectives who now believe his disappearance is suspicious.

Whaley is a registered sex offender who is required to check in with the Lubbock Police Department Sex Offender Coordinator each year. As usual, Whaley checked in with LPD at the end of April to verify all of his current information and to provide an updated photo.

Through the current investigation, it appears Whaley continued his regular routine until May 16th.  He was last seen in the area of Avenue Q and 8th Street and has not had any communication with friends or coworkers.

Detectives continue to follow up on information and possible leads but hope someone in the public may have additional information related to his disappearance.

Whaley is described as a white male with partially gray hair and hazel eyes. He is 5’11” and weighs approximately 210 to 230 pounds.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Crime Line at (806)741-1000.
