UPDATED: Equipment failure caused SW Lubbock power outage

LUBBOCK, Texas -

updated 9:51 p.m. - Lubbock Power & Light posted on Facebook that power has been restored to all customers.

updated 8:45 p.m. - Lubbock Power & Light blames the sweeping power outage in southwest Lubbock on equipment at the Chalker Substation.

More than 5,000 customers reported outages between Milwaukee and Indiana, even stretching in some spots to University, and from 50th to 114th Streets.

The utility is working Tuesday evening to re-energize the substation. Power will be restored once that is done.

The outage forced police to direct traffic at all the major intersections in this part of the city.

posted 6:06 p.m. - We've received multiple reports of a power outage across southwest Lubbock Tuesday afternoon/evening.

LPD tweeted that LP&L is working to identify the issue.

Do not call 911 to report your electricity is out.

Officers are directing traffic at 66th & Indiana, 74th & Quaker, South Loop & Slide, 73rd & Slide, 82nd & Vicksburg and 82nd & Frankford.
