Hotter than last May

Hotter than last May

Tonight, lows drop to 66 degrees under clear skies and SW winds 5-10mph. Tomorrow, expect warmer conditions near 103 in the afternoon under sunny skies and a WSW wind 5-10mph.

The warm temperatures continue thanks to a developing area of high pressure keeping the hot air in place, and suppressing any chance for rainfall. Some areas across Texas are under *Heat Advisories* because of the high temperatures expected. Right now Lubbock is not under a heat advisory.

Temperatures are expected to reach above 100° through the weekend, likely breaking a daily record or two in the process. This may has seen it's fair share of days above 90°. If you compare this May so far to May 2017, we've seen over twice as many days above 90°. In fact, assuming we go above 90° Wednesday and Thursday (which I think is safe to say), we will have observed 21 days above 90° in May 2018.

Expect this stubborn area of high pressure to remain with us and lows overnight will climb into the 70s. Next week looks "cooler," but the upper 90s are still well above average for this time of year.

Catch the latest with Chief Meteorologist Matt Ernst tonight on the News at Nine and Bobby is back in the morning.
