Long stretch of hot weather ahead

LUBBOCK, Texas -

WATCH NORTHEAST: A severe thunderstorm watch goes until 11 p.m. Friday for the eastern Panhandle, northern Rolling Plains and western Oklahoma, shown in green below:

severe watch

In and near the watch, storms will be capable for producing strong wind and large hail.

TONIGHT: Mild and mostly clear, low near 68. Wind S/SW 5-15mph.

HOT WEEKEND: Each afternoon of the three-day weekend the temperature will be up near 100. We're forecasting 102 Saturday, which would break the previous record of 101. Sunday's record is 103, Monday's 104.

The wind should kick up a little bit more on both Sunday and Memorial Day.

An isolated storm is possible in the area next few afternoons, but it is a slim chance.

NEXT WEEK: The big ridge of high pressure aloft will remain somewhere in the region. This means it'll stay hot and dry. Right now guidance shows the hottest day either Wednesday or Thursday.

7-day forecast

Have a great weekend and stay cool. Robert will have the next update on Saturday.

And please take some time to remember those who've paid the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation. There are many other things going on Monday, but that is the real reason for the holiday.
