LUBBOCK, Texas -

Covenant Children's and Aerocare celebrated EMS Week with a lunch for paramedics, firefighters, and other first responders from more than 56 services across the region.

Aerocare, specifically, throws events like these out in the rural areas to celebrate volunteer services.

A trauma coordinator at Covenant said this is an opportunity to unite all of them.

"It's important because a lot of times they don't get to see each other -- again, it's fire and EMS, so a lot of times they work beside each other, sometimes they're volunteers so they only respond then they go back to their normal lives, so they don't get to actually visit or have meals together very much. The big fire or EMS systems that don't get to see each other as often or only when they're taking care of patients, so it's a great time for them to be able to network and us also with them," Belinda Waters said.

Included, was a drawing for two free registrations to the Texas EMS conference in Fort Worth in November.
