LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech joins with Rockwall ISD in the metroplex for a dual credit e-learning partnership. Students in Rockwall ISD can now earn their diploma and work on a bachelor's degree at the same time.

It's specific to the Gene Burton College and Career Academy, astem-focused campus that emphasizes technical skills and certificates. Tech professors will also host face to face classes at the facility. University President Lawrence Schovanec said it helps provide convenient access to post secondary degrees.

"We would like the education experience here to go beyond the classroom, doing things that can step up and go out into the workforce, and meet our growing workforce needs," he said.

"Realizing an opportunity for kids to experience an educational environment in an authentic setting, 21st century education with the equipment they need and the quality of education they'll receive. I'm excited for the experience they're actually going to have," John Villareal, Rockwall ISD Superindendent, said.

Tech is the only four year partner with the academy, joining with two year partner Collin College, allowing students to work on a high school diploma, an associates degree, and now a bachelor's degree.
