UPDATED: Showers and storms moving across area

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

updated 9:22 p.m. - Showers and storms have moved into the western and southwestern South Plains. There is a gust front ahead of this line of storms, bringing gusty wind and maybe some dust. Showers and storms will continue moving east next couple hours, while also weakening. So we don't know how far exactly this line will make it, but will bring at least a little bit of rain...maybe 1/10" to 2/10". Farther southwest, Hobbs is now up to nearly 1/2" with 1/4" at Seminole.

South Plains radar

posted 5:33 p.m. - THIS AFTERNOON: Storms have fired up across Eastern New Mexico. Chasers have seen a few tornadoes between Ruidoso and Roswell, according to the NWS Albuquerque. A severe watch is in place for Eastern New Mexico until 9p Mountain/10p Central, shown in green below.

severe watch

Some storms should be able to make it east of the state line, though the coverage may diminish the farther east they move. That said, there is a chance for storms in our area, even in Lubbock, later tonight through early Thursday morning. The severe potential gets lower the farther east storms get.

THURSDAY: Just a slight chance for afternoon or evening storms, high near 90. Wind S 10-15.

EXTENDED FORECAST: It's really going to heat up for the Memorial Day weekend. There might be enough humidity with the heat for a few isolated storms this weekend, but not a great sign of storms any one day. It'll be up near 100 starting Saturday, with it not changing much through the middle of next week.

7-day forecast

Have a great rest of your day. Bobby will have a full update to the forecast here early in the morning.
