Shredding documents to send kids to summer camp

LUBBOCK, Texas -

It's an opportunity to "shred" old documents and help out The Salvation Army.

Alliance Credit Union hosted "Shred Day," where anyone could dispose of old tax documents, bank statements or other sensitive documents safely.

It was a free event, but donations were accepted. All of the funds will go towards raising money to send kids off to summer camp.

"The Salvation Army has a long tradition of summer camp. Every year we send twenty to thirty kids from Lubbock, but this year we are at a hundred kids from our program. Alliance Credit Union has been very gracious to sponsor some kids to camp in addition to that they prepared this fundraising event," Commanding Officer Nathanael Doria said.

The Salvation Army's goal was to raise $25,000 from the event.
