TX Game Warden's Office investigating dead fish near 54th & Quaker

LUBBOCK, Texas -

The Texas Game Warden's Office is investigating a lot of dead fish around the pond near 54th and Quaker. That intersection is still shut down while crews fix the road after a water main break flooded it and ruptured the road last weekend.

Neighbors are concerned something had gotten into the pond, telling us their pets were getting sick after drinking the water.

The Game Warden's Fish Kill and Spill team is a group of investigative biologists who specialize in just this.

Turns out it's nothing so nefarious, just the environmental shock of all that water getting dumped in.

"If you have a large aquarium at your house, it's got a set level, ph, and temperature," Game Warden Aaron Sims said. "If you were to dump a gallon of water in that-- of cold water -- it's gonna shock those fish the same thing happened here at this pond, it seems just in a larger sense in this pond."

The road blocks are still up around the intersection. Avoid Quaker near 54th Street until the work is finished.
