Hub City NORML participates in Global Marijuana March movement
LUBBOCK, Texas -
Hub City NORML marched a few dozen people to the courthouse, aligned with the Global Marijuana March movement.
Marchers were vocal about their support for decriminalizing cannabis, and are advocating for an expansion of medicinal marijuana programs in Texas. Governor Greg Abbott signed the Texas Compassionate Use Act in 2015, and advocates say the law is way too restrictive compared to other states.
"Unfortunately, it's only for people with intractable or incurable epilepsy. It's very hard to get involved in that program, and it unfortunately leaves a lot of people out in the cold, including lots of people with very bad epilepsy. They just can't jump through all the hoops for that program," Jake Syma with Hub City NORML said.
Lubbock is just one of a few cities in Texas to host a Marijuana March.
Hub City NORML hosts meetings on the first and third Saturday of every month.
