Cannabis activist says future rests in the hands of 'the younger generation'

LUBBOCK, Texas -

4/20: It's the unofficial holiday for stoners, and marijuana enthusiasts who want the drug legalized.

It's now permitted for medical use in more than half of the states, recreational in just a handful.

Activists are optimistic that toking will become the legal norm nationwide in the not too distant future.

Pro-cannabis activist Paul Bullock believes marijuana has a lot of upsides, and that many are realizing the advantages of having it legalized.

"Most of this country realizes the value of the plant. The monetary investments that are getting poured into this industry will promote growth," Bullock said.

Lubbock State Senator Charles Perry believes cannabis won't be legalized at any time in Texas soon, medically or recreationally.

Bullock said the senator needs to smell the smoke.

"If people could see that cannabis can help a loved one in their family or in their social circle, their opinion would change," Bullock said.

Bullock said the future of cannabis relies heavily on the younger generation, and he's confident in them.

Cannabis is currently legal for medical use in 29 states, and for recreational use in eight.
