UPDATE: Fire quickly spread to three Lorenzo houses

Posted: Updated:
LORENZO, Texas -

With the high wind and dry conditions fire fighting has been especially difficult.

The wind is to blame for a fire in Lorenzo jumping from building to building Tuesday. It destroyed at least one family's home.

Ralls Volunteer Fire Department Chief Billy Tidwell says when crews arrived on-scene the fire had already engulfed all three houses. The only fire-fighting option was to prevent the flames from spreading even further.

"It affects everything from your houses to your buildings, there's no humidity," Tidwell said. "So everything's going to go off just quite rapidly in those conditions. We were 35mph winds, single-digit relative humidity. So it was criteria for a tough day."

The State Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating the cause. No one was hurt. The Red Cross is helping the displaced family.
