LUBBOCK, Texas -

Texas Tech faculty members were among those on-board the Southwest Airlines jet that apparently blew an engine at about 30,000 feet Tuesday.

None of the Tech contingent were hurt.

A University spokesman issued this statement:

We are thankful our faculty members, students and their families are safe and we extend our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the deceased passenger and all those affected.

The plane, a twin-engine Boeing 737 bound from New York to Dallas with 149 people aboard, made an emergency landing in Philadelphia just before noon as passengers breathing through oxygen masks that dropped from the ceiling said their prayers and braced for impact.
