Cold front will disrupt evening plans, freeze likely tonight

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Mild start this Friday morning with temperatures in the 40s and 50s. Some clouds right now with a light southwest wind 5-10mph.

TODAY: High near 77, becoming partly cloudy and windy in the late afternoon/evening. Timing on a strong cold front moving through the Lubbock area is between 4-6PM. You can expect a strong northeast wind 18-28mph and colder temperatures behind this front. Likely to have some blowing dust this evening.

TONIGHT: Low near 30, freeze watch in effect for most of the area. Cover plants and bring the pets indoors. Mostly cloudy with calmer wind 10-18mph from the northeast. 

WEEKEND: Staying cold on Saturday with the clouds sticking around most of the day. Southern wind returning and becoming windy Sunday with highs back in the 80s. Fire concerns will increase Sunday with the strong wind, dry air, and warm temperatures.

EXTENDED: Staying dry and mild with highs warming to the 90s by Thursday. Fire concerns will continue to increase later in the week as wind is expected to increase again.
