LUBBOCK, Texas -

More than 100 West Texas students got the chance to work with Texas Tech faculty and graduate students, to finalize projects for National History Day.

Those projects will be submitted to state competitions in Austin. Students from Hutchinson and Evans Middle Schools and Estacado and Levelland High Schools are taking part.

The Honors College and history majors helped improve papers, grade plays, documentaries, websites and exhibits. This year's theme is "Conflict and Compromise".

"A lot of the new categories like websites and documentaries are using a lot of very common tools -- like website design and video editing -- that they're using it all different kind of fields that you would see today," Charles Olivier, Texas Tech instructor said. "So they're able to apply those skills into the history classroom."

The state competition will be April 28 at UT Austin.
