UPDATE: Pedestrian struck by vehicle remains hospitalized

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Cyrus Solenberger, 64, is the pedestrian who was struck by a car last Friday morning. He remains in the hospital with serious injuries.

The Lubbock Police Department is investigation a car crash that sent one pedestrian to the hospital Friday morning.

At approximately 6:20 a.m., LPD dispatch received a call that a car had just struck a pedestrian in the 6500 block of the Interstate 27 southbound access road. The driver of the car stayed on scene and called police for help.

Officers located a 64-year-old male pedestrian with serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, Lubbock Police Department Accident Investigators responded to the scene. Through the initial investigation, it appears the pedestrian walked eastbound into the roadway and was struck by the car.

Accident Investigators shut down the southbound access road between Highway 84 and 66th Street to map out the scene for their investigation. As of 8:45 a.m., the road has been reopened.

This case remains under investigation.

Police are at the scene of a major wreck that shut down an I-27 southbound access road. Police say a pedestrian was struck. He is a 64-year-old man and is suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to UMC. Officers say he went through the windshield. The driver is not expected to face any charges.

The access road between 62nd St. and 66th St. is now back open.
