Hospice of Lubbock patients receive early beans and cornbread

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Beans and cornbread a fitting dish for cold days, it is also a staple dish for a long lasting tradition here in Lubbock. City leaders from across the area will put on the Beans and Cornbread luncheon to provide money for Hospice of Lubbock the only non profit end of life care provider.

"You know it's the 29th year of this big community event," said Kathy Gilbreath, Hospice of Lubbock board member.

Hospice of Lubbock previewed this traditional beans and cornbread event delivering these foods to hospice patients and their families who may be unable to attend the big event.

Erica Adams's husband Richard is a retired educator and coach receives medical treatment from Hospice of Lubbock. 

"I know he likes beans you know and it's just great that they take the time,"said Adams. "I admire the volunteers." 

Lubbock mayor Dan Pope will be hosting this years Beans and Cornbread Luncheon along with other mayors from the region and said this event is personal for him. 

"My great aunt went through the end of life experience," said Pope. "She was a patient and she was taken care of she was loved by the hospice of Lubbock."

The Beans and Cornbread luncheon will be Friday March 2nd at the Lubbock Civic Center. All proceeds raised from the luncheon will go directly to help non funded and under-funded hospice patients and families. The money will also help fund the Grief Recovery Center and the Children Grief Camp.
