Sweetwater campuses placed on lockdown after social media threats

Posted: Updated:

The middle school and high school in Sweetwater were placed on lockdown Thursday after police notified the district of a threat on social media.

Superintendent Dr. George McFarland said in a statement the district followed its emergency operations plan to ensure the safety of the students.

"Sweetwater ISD will continue to cooperate with local law enforcement to assess and monitor the situation so that we can ensure the safety of our student is properly handled moving forward," the statement read.

McFarland wanted to reassure parents the situation was handled swiftly and in a "manner that kept student's safety at the forefront of what we do in the district."
