Warmer next few days, rain chance Friday

Posted: Updated:
LUBBOCK, Texas -

THIS AFTERNOON: We've had some high clouds overhead today with the temperature in the 50s. Our focus is an upper-level storm system just of the California coast. It'll move this way rest of the week.

TONIGHT: Fairly mild with some clouds, low in the upper 30s. Wind SW 5-12mph.

WEDNESDAY: Much warmer, high near 77. It'll be a partly to mostly cloudy sky. Gusty wind SW 10-20mph.

THURSDAY: The wind will get a little stronger Thursday, W 12-25mph with higher gusts. We'll also see more clouds. Despite the increase in clouds it should still reach the mid to upper 70s.

RAIN CHANCE: Finally, we have a chance for some showers across our area. Unfortunately, it's not a great chance. And coverage will probably be pretty limited, where parts of our area misses out. As the upper low moves this way it'll be weakening and opening up. Despite that, some showers are possible real late Thursday night into Friday. The latest data has trended a little milder. We still could see some mixed wintry precip, but it looks like the main precip type will be rain. The chance for rain will fade late Friday night.

WEEKEND: It'll clear out and turn warmer Saturday, high near 60. Then even warmer on Sunday.

7-day forecast

RECORD: Tomorrow will tie the record for most consecutive days without measurable precipitation at the Lubbock airport. If we make it to the end of Thursday without 0.01" of precip then this will set the new record.

Have a great rest of your day. Whitney will have a full update to the forecast early tomorrow morning.
